US Green Light to Small Modular Nuclear Design

US regulators have green-lit a Small Modular Nuclear Reactor design in a water-shed moment for the nuclear power industry.

US Energy Department approved the first ever small modular nuclear design for construction last week for NuScale, who hope their reactor will be in operation by 2030 in Idaho.

The nuclear plant will supply carbon free electricity to the Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems (UAMPS). NuScale has told investors the target price for power production is US$89 per megawatt hour.
